On Flash-8 an attempt to import results in a error saying "A required system
library did not initialize properly.Ensure DirectShow 9 and QuickTime 6.5 or
higher installed on your system"

If I install these two on my computer, will this mean that the resulting SWF
will also require DirectShow 9 and QuickTime 6.5 to play?

No. Flash's import engine needs them to import your video, but once that's
done and you publish to FLV or SWF, all the client machine will need is the
correct version of Flash Player

Thanks.
the correct version of Flash Player means what? I tried in version 7 and the
message was v7 does not support something in my clip.

Depends how you encode. If you encode to FLV using the On2 VP6 codec, you
will need Flash Player 8. If you encode to FLV using the Sorenson Squeeze
codec, FP7 will do it.
